TNI Commander Allegedly Promotes Teddy Indra Wijaya Without Standard Procedure

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto, is suspected of promoting Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya from Major to Lieutenant Colonel without the required attendance at the Indonesian Army Staff and Command School (Sesko TNI AD).

According to a document from the TNI Headquarters reviewed by Tempo on March 6, 2025, the TNI Commander ordered the promotion of Cabinet Secretary Major Teddy Indra Wijaya by one rank, from Major to Lieutenant Colonel.

The document states: "Major Infantry Teddy, Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia, is hereby promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, effective February 25, 2025."

The document further states that a directive from the TNI Commander is required for the Regular Promotion Acceleration (KPRP) from Major to Lieutenant Colonel. On February 25, 2025, TNI Commander General Agus issued Decree Number Kep/238/II/2025, granting the Regular Promotion Acceleration (KPRP) from Major to Lieutenant Colonel for Major Inf Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Both Major General Hariyanto, Head of the TNI Information Center, and Major Teddy Indra Wijaya have not yet responded to Tempo’s request to verify this claim.

Teddy Indra Wijaya’s career has soared since he began serving as an aide to Prabowo Subianto. He was appointed Cabinet Secretary for the Red and White Cabinet on October 20, 2024, following  Prabowo's inauguration.

Major Teddy previously served as an aide to Prabowo when the General of the Gerindra Party served as the Minister of Defense. Teddy also held the position of Deputy Commander of the Infantry Battalion (Wadan Yonif) Para Raider 328/Dirgahayu, Infantry Brigade 17/Kujang I, 1st Infantry Division/Kostrad.

Born on April 14, 1989, Teddy Indra Wijaya began his military career in 2011 after graduating from the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java. At that time, Teddy belonged to the Infantry Corps of the Special Forces Command (Kopassus) of the Indonesian Army. A few years later, Teddy was appointed as an Assistant Aide to President Joko Widodo from 2014 to 2019.

He later continued his education at the U.S. Army Ranger School in Fort Benning. Teddy is recognized as one of the best soldiers in the Indonesian Army, having earned recognition from the elite U.S. Army forces. He graduated as an International Honor Graduate from the school, among 185 officer students.

This achievement placed him on the list of Indonesian Army officers who have successfully graduated from Ranger School, alongside notable names such as former general Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, former Lt. Gen. Hotmangaraja Panjaitan, and former Lt. Gen. Nugroho Widyatomo.

After returning from the U.S., Teddy, then a captain, resumed his service in Jakarta as an aide to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto in 2020. Over the course of four years, Teddy Indra Wijaya accompanied Prabowo in various activities, both during his tenure as a minister and throughout the 2024 presidential campaign.
