Indonesia is planning to acquire up to 48 KAAN fifth-generation fighter jets from Turkey, a deal estimated to be worth Rp162 trillion.

The initiative was outlined in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Indonesia's Ministry of Defense and Turkey’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) during the Indo Defence Expo and Forum at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

The MoU signing took place in the presence of President Prabowo Subianto, who was visiting the Turkish Defense Industry Pavilion at the event.

2. Indonesian Government Assets in France Face Seizure Risk

Indonesian government assets in France are at risk of being seized after the Indonesian Ministry of Defense lost a dispute against Navayo International AG. Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that the government has filed an appeal against the decision.

"We hope the court can consider the various facts and overturn the previous decision," Yusril said during a meeting with French Minister of Justice Grald Darmanin, as quoted from Antara, June 17, 2025.

To face this appeal hearing, the government, through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Paris, has appointed an experienced French lawyer to handle cases involving the seizure of state assets.

3. Indonesia Tackles Smuggling of 1,950 Sea Turtle Eggs Bound for Malaysia

Indonesia's Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) intercepted the smuggling of 1,950 sea turtle eggs suspected to be destined for Malaysia. Ministry officials found the eggs in four unclaimed cartons aboard the passenger ship KMP Bahtera Nusantara 03 at Sintete Port, Sambas, West Kalimantan.

The Director-General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance, Pung Nugroho Saksono, stated that the team moved on Tuesday night, June 17, 2025, after receiving a report from the public. "The smuggled sea turtle eggs originated from Tambelan Island and were found on the ship KMP Bahtera Nusantara 03 at Sintete Port, Sambas, West Kalimantan," Saksono said in a press conference at the KKP office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
