TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Trade has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in expanding into global markets. Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya stated that the collaboration aims to enhance the international competitiveness of MSME products and facilitate their marketing abroad.
"We have set an export target for MSMEs in 33 countries, aiming for US$18.84 billion in 2025," Roro said on February 24. At an exchange rate of Rp16,311 per US dollar, this target amounts to approximately Rp307 trillion.
This goal represents an increase from the previous year’s MSMEs export realization, which grew by 12.54% to around Rp268.76 trillion.
"This is our target, and through this collaboration, we hope to foster the innovations needed for MSMEs," she added.
Roro underscored the synergy between the two ministries in fostering MSMEs growth, particularly given the sector's 61% contribution to Indonesia’s GDP in 2024. She emphasized that MSME products must meet higher standards to access international markets, and the Trade Ministry's 33 overseas representative offices are actively analyzing market potential.
Roro added that she wants the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of SOEs to work together in identifying markets for MSME products, with key export targets including Southeast Asian countries and Australia. The Trade Ministry, she said, will play a pivotal role in market research and business-matching initiatives, connecting MSMEs with potential buyers.
According to Roro, the Ministry of Trade routinely organizes business-matching events between MSMEs and representatives in 33 countries. "Through this collaboration, we hope SOEs can provide the necessary support to strengthen MSMEs and help them gain a foothold in global markets," she concluded.
