Trent Alexander-Arnold has insisted his feelings towards Liverpool fans will not change regardless of how he is received on his Anfield return with Real Madrid next week.

Alexander-Arnold could be in contention to start for the Spanish giants in their Champions League clash with Liverpool on Tuesday night, with fellow full back Dani Carvajal absent through injury.

He was booed by Liverpool fans when introduced as a substitute against Arsenal in May after announcing his decision to leave his boyhood club.

The nature of Alexander-Arnold's exit had received a backlash from the Liverpool fanbase after his contract had run down, preventing the club from garnering a significant fee.

Alexander-Arnold would ultimately complete a £10m move with Real Madrid opting to sign him ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Feelings are expected to run high when Alexander-Arnold returns to his former club, where he had played a key role in helping the Reds win two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Alexander-Arnold had been booed by sections of Liverpool fans after confirming his exit towards the end of last season

When asked about the possible reception he could receive from Liverpool fans, Alexander-Arnold insisted his feelings to the club will not change.

'Whatever way I'm received, is the decision of the fans,' Alexander-Arnold told Amazon Prime.

'I'll always love the club, I'll always be a fan of the club. I'll always be thankful for the opportunities and the things we achieved together, they'll live with me forever.

'No matter what, my feelings won't change towards Liverpool. I've got memories there that will last me a lifetime, and no matter how I'm received, that won't change.'

Alexander-Arnold's switch to Real Madrid saw him team up with his best friend and fellow England star Jude Bellingham.

Liverpool fans had previously hoped Alexander-Arnold's friendship could have helped the club land Bellingham when the midfielder was set to leave Borussia Dortmund, only for him to join Real Madrid.

Instead, fans were left speculating over the role Bellingham may have played in convincing Alexander-Arnold not to sign a new contract at Liverpool and make the move over to the Spanish capital.

Alexander-Arnold was asked whether Bellingham had called him and encouraged him to switch Merseyside for Madrid.

He admitted Bellingham's glowing reviews of Real Madrid on England duty had, however, helped him conclude that it was time for him to make a change in his career

'Not so much, there was a lot of speculation, the "agent Jude" stuff and everything in that sense,' Alexander-Arnold said.

'It was more so in his first season [at Real Madrid] we'd meet up at England camps and everyone would want to know what it was like behind the scenes, it is what it seems like.

'He said it was incredible, and he'd never seen anything like it, the drive from the whole club, to win and the expectation to win.

'It wasn't so much persuading me to come, he talked so highly of the club.

'I'd made my mind up at the end of the day, I wanted and needed a change for me, both on and off the pitch. It was time to go and do that.

'He is a great lad and we are great friends, it is good to have someone else English here and we both understand each other very well and he made settling in much easier for me.'

Alexander-Arnold's debut season at Real Madrid has been impacted by a hamstring injury, which has restricted him to just five appearances so for this campaign.

The 27-year-old has been on the bench in Real Madrid's last two LaLiga matches as he nears a comeback, which could come for Xabi Alonso's side at Anfield in midweek.

Last month, former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard questioned how Alexander-Arnold had left the club, while admitting he could see why the interest of Real Madrid could be persuasive.

Gerrard suggested Alexander-Arnold had taken a risk by joining Real Madrid, whereas he could have achieved legend status had he opted to continuing starring for Liverpool.
