TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tropical Cyclone 93S, which has developed into Tropical Cyclone Grant, has moved westward from the waters of the southern part of West Java. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the tropical cyclone is currently located in the waters of the Indonesian Ocean, specifically southwest of Bengkulu at a distance of 1,030 kilometers.
According to BMKG, the storm is moving away from the Indonesian region. Grant is moving at a speed of 35 knots, or approximately 65 kilometers per hour. BMKG predicts that its category will rise from 1 to 2 on Thursday morning, December 25, 2025, with its strength increasing to 50 knots or 95 kilometers per hour.
According to BMKG's weather forecaster, Dina Ike Ayu, Tropical Cyclone Grant will indirectly impact the waters of the Indonesian region, with wave heights reaching a moderate category of 1.25-2.5 meters.
"Its area covers the waters west of Bengkulu, Lampung, the southern part of the Sunda Strait, the waters south of Banten to West Java," she said in a written statement on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
Tropical Cyclone Grant began to form on December 11, 2025, in the waters south of West Nusa Tenggara in the Indonesian Ocean. According to BMKG, the potential precursor of the storm could result in moderate to heavy rainfall in several surrounding regions, such as West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, and Bali, and cause the sea wave height to rise in the waters south of East Java.
Based on BMKG's monitoring, the cyclone seeds continued to move westward and strengthened into a tropical storm that was far from the mainland.
