Troy Aikman takes swipe at his former boss Jerry Jones over Dallas Cowboys' trade plans

Former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman trolled owner Jerry Jones as the Dallas defense struggled once more against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cowboys fell to 3-5-1 after a second successive loss, with the Cardinals securing a 27-17 win at AT&T Stadium on Monday Night Football.

Jones teased ahead of the game that Dallas is poised to complete a trade ahead of the NFL's deadline on Tuesday, which was later revealed to be the arrival of Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson.

Aikman - who won three Super Bowls with the Cowboys - was in the broadcast booth for ESPN on Monday night. 

And midway through the third quarter, the former quarterback said: 'He may want to cancel that trade. I don't think one player - from what I've seen tonight - is going to make a difference for this group,' he said.

The Cowboys were trailing 24-10 to the Cardinals when Aikman doubled down on comments he had made before kickoff.

Ahead of kickoff at AT&T Stadium, Aikman was asked if the Cowboys - who recently traded pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Packers - are one defensive star from competing. 

'No, no. I don't believe so,' he said. 'Do I think Micah Parsons would have made a difference? Absolutely. 

'[But] now would that change their record that much? I don't know. He is a difference maker but those guys aren't typically available. 

'So I don't know that they can bring in somebody like him. I don't know what that move is (or) who it might be. I think it's interesting that you announce there's a trade but you're not going to announce who it is...'

Wilson's arrival, while it will boost a struggling defense, is unlikely to be the difference between winning and losing, and he recently plummeted down the depth chart behind Barrett Carter.

Jones had earlier teased the trade during an interview with Stephen A. Smith on SiriusXM Radio, claiming: 'We certainly have made a trade, and we may make a couple more trades before that deadline.

'We've made one. We possibly could make two more, and I'm going to wait and let you read about that when we send the papers in tomorrow.'
