TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump said Iran has 48 hours to reach a nuclear deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
"Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT," Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Saturday, April 4, 2026, as reported by Anadolu and cited by Antara.
"Time is running out - 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them," he said.
On March 26, Trump said he was extending the deadline for nuclear negotiations by 10 days after Iran allowed 10 Pakistani-flagged oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Escalation in the Middle East has escalated since the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28, 2026, which killed more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran retaliated with drone and missile attacks on Israel and US military facilities in Jordan, Iraq, and the Gulf states.
Iran has also restricted the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which about 20 percent of global oil supplies pass.
