Turkish Court Seeks Interpol Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta –A court in Istanbul, Turkey, issued an Interpol arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom it holds responsible for crimes linked to Israel’s actions in Gaza.

According to Daily Sabah, as cited by Antara on Tuesday, July 15, the panel of judges at Istanbul’s 11th Criminal Court handling the case involving the detention of Global Sumud Flotilla activists decided to add Netanyahu and other Israeli officials to the Interpol wanted list.

The move follows an arrest warrant issued by the Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office in November 2025 against Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders over allegations of genocide in Gaza.

Turkey launched a new investigation after Israeli authorities detained participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission that attempted to deliver aid to Gaza in October 2025.

Doctors, including psychologists, who examined the activists after their deportation from Israel presented testimony and evidence regarding alleged violations of international humanitarian law to the court.

The Global Sumud Flotilla activists said their mission was aimed at delivering humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians in Gaza facing severe shortages of essential supplies.

Previously, the Turkish Foreign Ministry described the Israeli navy’s interception of the flotilla as an act of piracy and a serious violation of international law.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly criticized Netanyahu over Israel’s military operations in Gaza and its confrontation with Iran. Erdogan has said Ankara will continue supporting countries affected by what he described as Israeli aggression.
