Typhoon Wutip

Typhoon Wutip formed over the South China Sea on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, according to the China Meteorological Administration (CMA). The storm made landfall again between the western part of Guangdong and Guangxi on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The intense tropical storm then turned northeast and weakened.

In Guangdong, the emergency response level was raised on Friday, June 13, 2025, with over 30 tugboats made available for rescue. Fishing boats had returned to port to avoid being hit by Wutip.

China has experienced various extreme weather events this summer, including heatwaves, droughts, and flash floods.

In August 2024, Typhoon Gaemi resulted in 30 deaths. The typhoon moved from the Philippines and Taiwan to eastern China.

According to Anadolu, the Chinese government evacuated thousands of people from flood-prone low-lying areas. Many flights were also canceled after Typhoon Wutip hit the southern regions of China.

The first typhoon of the year, Typhoon Wutip, prompted local governments to activate emergency response measures and evacuate 16,561 people to safety in Hainan.

Typhoon Wutip intensified into a severe tropical storm on Thursday morning and was last located near the Ledong Li Autonomous District, Hainan, with wind speeds reaching 101 kilometers per hour moving north at speeds of 5 to 10 kilometers per hour. On Friday morning, 12 crew members were rescued from a ship off the coast of Hainan.

Authorities closed all kindergartens, schools, construction sites, and tourist attractions in the city of Sanya in Hainan. All flights at Sanya Airport have been suspended since Thursday, and train services across the province were halted.
