TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States reject Arab leaders’ plan for reconstruction in Gaza, stating that Trump stood by his own vision for the enclave.
“The current proposal does not address the reality that Gaza is currently uninhabitable and residents cannot humanely live in a territory covered in debris and unexploded ordnance,” said the National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes in a statement on Tuesday night, March 5, 2025, as quoted from Anadolu.
The post-war plan for the Gaza Strip proposed by Egypt contradicts Trump's proposal, which includes expelling Gaza’s residents and turning the territory into a “riviera” in the Middle East.
Egypt suggested that Hamas relinquish power to an interim government until a reformed Palestinian Authority (PA) can take control. This proposal would allow around 2 million Palestinians to remain in Gaza.
President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, pledged that general elections would be held in the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem, if feasible, for the first time in nearly two decades.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is still refusing to disclose his post-war plan for Gaza. He only stated his support for Trump's plan and argued that neither the PA nor Hamas should rule Gaza.
The $53 billion proposal by Arab countries calls for the reconstruction of Gaza by 2030. The first phase involves the removal of unexploded ordnance and the clearing of over 50 million tons of rubble left by Israeli airstrikes and military attacks.
Jordanian officials previously stated that the plan would be presented to President Donald Trump in the coming weeks.
