TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States will deploy around 200 troops to Israel to support and monitor the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas.

The deployment forms part of Washington’s broader role in facilitating the truce, which was announced by President Donald Trump earlier this week.

According to US officials cited by Arab News on Thursday, the troops will work within a civilian-military coordination center involving partner countries, non-governmental organizations, and private sector representatives.

The coordination center will include experts in transportation, planning, security, logistics, and engineering, tasked with overseeing the ceasefire implementation and the transition toward civilian governance in Gaza.

The announcement provides the first detailed outline of how the ceasefire will be monitored and how the US military will contribute to those efforts.

Following the approval of the first phase of the Trump administration’s peace plan, several issues remain unresolved, including the disarmament of Hamas, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the future governance of the territory.

A US official said the newly formed team will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the ceasefire terms and assisting in the shift from military to civilian administration. The center will be operated by approximately 200 personnel from the US Central Command, supported by additional staff from various regions.

“The troops have already begun arriving and will continue to arrive over the weekend to begin planning and setting up the coordination center,” the official stated.

No Troop Deployment in Gaza

Despite the mission’s proximity to the conflict zone, US officials confirmed that no American soldiers will enter Gaza.

“They will not be in Gaza. No U.S. boots on the ground in Gaza,” an official told NBC News.

The deployment marks the first phase of Trump’s 20-step peace plan aimed at ending the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. As reported by Al Jazeera, both sides have agreed to the initial phase, which includes the release of all prisoners and the withdrawal of Israeli troops to pre-designated positions.

The agreement represents the most significant diplomatic achievement of Trump’s administration after eight months of negotiations. However, the breakthrough comes in the aftermath of immense devastation, with more than 67,000 Palestinian civilians, mostly women and children, killed and nearly all residential areas in Gaza reduced to rubble.
