TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australia's Western Sydney University has officially opened its first international campus in Surabaya. The first group of students will commence bachelor's programs in computer and data science, information technology, and business in September 2024.
The Australian Charge d'Affaires to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, stated that this step aims to strengthen educational ties and connections between the communities in both Australia and Indonesia. Vice-Chancellor of Western Sydney University, Jennifer Westacott AO, mentioned that their campus is the first foreign university to establish a branch campus in Surabaya. With the presence of this campus, they are committed to helping develop East Java's economic and human resources.
"We are committed to contributing to the economic development and the human resources quality in East Java and its surrounding areas," she stated.
Furthermore, Westacott stated that Western Sydney University will add new postgraduate programs alongside the existing undergraduate programs. These postgraduate programs are scheduled to begin in September 2025.
