TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Jakarta provincial government has chosen a concept combining technology, arts and culture, and a historical narrative for the peak evening of Jakarta's 499th anniversary, to be held at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout on June 27, 2026. This concept will come to life through a video mapping performance, a flying LED show, and the unveiling of the "5 Centuries of Jakarta" logo.

The city administration believes that employing visual technology is an effective way to convey Jakarta's long journey and illustrate the direction of urban development as it approaches its quincentenary in 2027.

"The peak evening of the 499th anniversary at the HI Roundabout is designed to blend an appreciation for arts and culture, technology, and a narrative of Jakarta's future," said a statement released by the provincial government through its spokesperson, Cyril Raoul Hakim, on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

Through the video mapping and flying LED show, the public will be invited to witness Jakarta's transformation over the years. The performance aims not only to provide visual entertainment but also to convey educational insights regarding the city's history, developmental milestones, and its vision as a sustainable global city.

In addition to the tech showcase, the administration will launch the "5 Centuries of Jakarta" logo, marking the beginning of the countdown to the city's 500th anniversary in 2027. The logo features the number 499, closely integrated to symbolize the unity of Jakarta residents from all walks of life.

A time tunnel element embedded within the logo design depicts Jakarta's long passage from its historical origins into the future. Meanwhile, the selected colors represent the city's dynamism, its rich diversity, and an ever-evolving sense of optimism.

Chico explained that the logo was designed with the number 499 seamlessly integrated, symbolizing unity across all segments of society. The time tunnel element and the vibrant colors reflect Jakarta's dynamism and optimism as it continues to move forward.

"This concept was chosen so that the celebration is not only festive but also meaningful, inviting residents to experience a sense of shared pride and hope," said Cyril, or familiarly called Chiko.

The city administration noted that this approach was selected to ensure that the anniversary celebration goes beyond mere festivities to carry a deeper meaning for the community. Residents are expected to take pride in the history of Jakarta and carry a collective hope for the city's future.

Meanwhile, throughout the series of events leading up to the 499th anniversary celebrations, the regional government emphasized Jakarta's shift toward increasingly citizen-centric development aimed at becoming an inclusive, sustainable, and competitive global city.

The programs include historical reflection, urban planning, strengthening public services, environmental campaigns, and community empowerment through a culture of mutual cooperation.
