The White House was forced to delete a post that used the New York Knicks logo to mock mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani after his election victory on Tuesday night, according to reports.

Mamdani, just 34, was elected mayor of New York City after romping to victory in the polls with 50.4 percent support, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo at 41.6 percent and Republican Curtis Sliwa at 7.1 percent.

His victory comes as a major blow to Donald Trump, who recently threatened to arrest and deport the Uganda-born American if he won the election after branding him a 'communist.'

Instead, the President threw his support behind Andrew Cuomo, who ran in this year's mayoral race as an independent after losing the Democratic primary. 'I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a Record of Success, WIN, than a Communist with no experience and a Record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE,' he wrote on Truth Social.

Just hours after Mamdani prevailed over Cuomo, Trump's White House shared a picture on X of an altered Knicks logo which instead read: 'Trump Is Your President'.

By Wednesday the post had been deleted from the White House's account, and Front Office Sports is reporting that they did so 'voluntarily' after being contacted by the Knicks.

Mamdani becoming the mayor of election comes as a major blow to President Donald Trump

Trump's White House posted this altered Knicks logo after Mamdani's election win, before the team asked them to take it down

'The Knicks remain neutral on political matters,' the team was quoted as saying in a statement. 'We hope all our elected officials, whether current or recently elected, do a great job in office.'

It comes just weeks after the Knicks also sent Mamdani a cease and desist letter for using his own altered version of their logo, which read: 'New York Zohran.'

The Democratic socialist's team used it for a basketball-themed campaign ad which aired during the Knicks' season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The logo also appeared on his campaign's social media accounts alongside the caption: 'This is our year. This is our time'.

According to the New York Post, Mamdani pulled the ad after receiving a letter from the team which said it was 'likely to mislead the public into believing that the Campaign is affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by, or in some way connected with the Knicks.'

Before his election win, Mamdani made a very low-key appearance at a Knicks game on Sunday evening.

He sought relative anonymity in the nosebleeds at Madison Square Garden to take in their 128-116 victory over the Chicago Bulls ahead of voters taking to the polls.
