TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israel's deadly attack in Gaza on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, which also fell in the latter part of Ramadan, has drawn condemnation from Arab countries and the international community. They urged Israel to stop the hostilities and uphold the ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

Israel's airstrikes hit Gaza, killing at least 326 people, including children and women, according to Palestinian health authorities. Israel violated the two-month ceasefire by refusing to withdraw from Gaza as per the initial agreement. Netanyahu insisted on extending the first phase of the ceasefire to free all hostages.

Egypt's Foreign Ministry condemned Israel's deadly airstrikes in Gaza last night, calling it a "blatant violation" of the ceasefire that came into effect on January 19.

The attack is a "dangerous escalation that threatens to have serious consequences for the region's stability," said a statement from Egypt, which mediated the Gaza ceasefire alongside Qatar and the United States.

Turkey said that Israel's attack in Gaza is a "new phase in the policy of genocide" against Palestine. Ankara urged the international community to take a firm stance to ensure the ceasefire is upheld and humanitarian aid is delivered.

In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry added that it is unacceptable for Israel to cause a "new cycle of violence" in the region, and the "hostile approach" of the Israeli government threatens the future of the Middle East.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was "shocked" by Israel's latest airstrikes in Gaza, a UN spokesperson said.

"The Secretary-General is shocked by Israel's airstrikes in Gaza... he strongly urges for the ceasefire to be respected, for unimpeded humanitarian aid to be rebuilt, and for the remaining hostages to be unconditionally released," said UN spokesperson Rolando Gomez in a press conference.

Russia also warned of a "spiral of escalation" in Gaza after Israel launched the deadliest attack in the region since the ceasefire on January 19.

"The deteriorating situation, another spiral of escalation, this creates concerns for us," said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov to reporters.

China called for steps to prevent a "humanitarian disaster" in Gaza.

"China is deeply concerned about the current situation between Israel and Palestine," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, urging the parties to "avoid any actions that can cause an escalation of the situation, and prevent a larger-scale humanitarian disaster."
