TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - France tops Group I of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Norway in their final group stage match at Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, on Friday local time.

France's victory came thanks to goals from Ousmane Dembele (3) and Desire Doue, while Norway kept up through Thelo Aasgaard, according to FIFA records.

This victory puts France in first place in the final standings of Group I of the 2026 World Cup with nine points from three matches.

On the other hand, the defeat leaves Norway in second place in the final standings of Group I with six points from three matches.

France immediately took the initiative on the offense with a shot from Kylian Mbappé that hit the Norwegian goalpost.

Les Bleus took the lead in the seventh minute after Mbappé's pass was converted by Ousmane Dembele, making the score 1-0.

Dembele scored his second goal of the match after receiving a pass from Mbappé, upping France's lead to 2-0 in the 20th minute.

Just a minute later, Norway reduced the deficit to 1-2 after Andreas Schjelderup's pass was met by Thelo Aasgaard.

Dembele scored his hat trick after converting a pass from Aurelien Tchaouameni to make it 3-1 in the 32nd minute.

Entering the second half, Norway had a chance to reduce the deficit after being awarded a penalty.

Jorgen Strand Larsen, who stepped up to take the penalty, failed as his shot was stopped by French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Norway had another chance to reduce the deficit through Oscar Bobb's touch, but Maignan was able to thwart the effort.

In stoppage time, France increased their lead to 4-1 after Bradley Barcola's pass was converted by Desire Doue in the 90+4 minute. The score remained the same until the end of the match.

Senegal Keeps Knockout Hope Alive

Senegal, meanwhile, maintained their hopes of advancing to the round of 32 after crushing Iraq 5-0 in their Group I match at BMO Field in Toronto on Friday local time.

Senegal secured a victory over Iraq thanks to goals from Habib Diarra, Ismaila Sarr, Pape Gueye (2), and Iliman Ndiaye, according to FIFA.

This victory moved Senegal to third place in the 2026 World Cup Group I standings with three points from three matches, securing a chance to advance to the round of 32.

This result, however, means Iraq finishes bottom of Group I with no points.

Senegal took the lead in the fourth minute through Habib Diarra's goal from a corner kick.

Iraq then had to play with 10 men from the 13th minute after defender Rebin Sulaka was shown a straight red card by the referee following a VAR review.

Despite having to play with 10 men, Iraq was able to withstand Senegal's onslaught for the remainder of the first half, maintaining a 1-0 score at halftime.

Entering the second half, Senegal increased their lead to 2-0 thanks to a goal scored by Ismaila Sarr in the 56th minute.

Senegal's third goal was scored by Pape Gueye in the 59th minute, and again at the 71st minute, making the score 4-0.

Senegal closed out the match with a 5-0 victory thanks to a goal scored by Iliman Ndiaye in the 82nd minute.
