TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tech firm Xiaomi has announced a five-year battery warranty program for the Redmi Note 17 Pro, which launched on July 14 in China. This initiative becomes one of the major selling points for the device, alongside a 9,000 mAh battery featuring 67W fast charging and 22.5W reverse charging support.
Under the scheme, Xiaomi promises to replace the battery free of charge if its capacity drops below 80 percent within the first four years of purchase. Furthermore, if the capacity falls below 80 percent during the fifth year, the company will not only replace the unit but also upgrade its capacity.
According to a report by GSM Arena, Xiaomi states that eligible users will receive a higher-capacity battery. The company's promotional materials indicate an increase of up to 1,000 mAh, potentially providing users with a 10,000 mAh replacement unit. The program is officially named the "First Sale Free Five-Year Battery Upgrade Guarantee," meaning it applies exclusively to consumers who purchase the device during its initial sales window.
In addition to the battery, Xiaomi claims to have optimized its HyperOS to ensure the Redmi Note 17 Pro maintains smooth performance for up to five years. The optimization includes enhanced performance for foreground applications, quicker startup times, and wear-leveling technology on the storage media to sustain read and write speeds while mitigating memory degradation.
For durability, the Redmi Note 17 Pro features Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and has reportedly passed impact tests involving a metal ball dropped from a height of 3 meters. The device also carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications, proving its resistance to splashes, submersion, and high-pressure water jets.
Xiaomi has also integrated several AI-driven security features into the Redmi Note 17 Pro. The smartphone can detect suspected scam calls and includes a feature for AI-based facial manipulation detection to identify face swaps or deepfakes. The Redmi Note 17 Pro was introduced alongside the standard Redmi Note 17 on July 14 in China, though a global launch schedule has yet to be announced.
