TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian U-20 national team has arrived at Haneda Airport, Tokyo, on Tuesday, 5 November 2024. Under the command of Indra Sjafri, the players will undergo a training camp in Japan to prepare for the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup in China, which will take place from February 6 to 23, 2025.
Coach Indra Sjafri's foster children will train in the Land of the Rising Sun from November 6 to 23 and will play five friendly matches. "The training in Japan aims to prepare for the U-20 Asian Cup to be held in China," said Indra in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
"During our time in Japan, we will have five friendly matches. Thank you for the support from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and the Indonesian community in Japan. We ask for your prayers," added Indra. The arrival of the Indonesian U-20 national team was welcomed by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo along with representatives from the Indonesian Garuda Supporters Community in Japan.
The Cultural and Social Information Coordinator of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Muhammad Al Aula, emphasized the embassy's readiness to provide full support to the U-20 national team during their training in Japan.
"Welcome to the U-20 national team in Japan. The U-20 national team training program in Japan to prepare for the upcoming U-20 Asian Cup finals in China is a valuable opportunity to prepare the red and white squad for the next year's U-20 Asian Cup. The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo is always ready to fully support the needs of the U-20 national team in Japan," said Al Aula.
Before arriving in Japan with 30 players, a total of 33 Garuda Muda squad members focused on training for a week from October 27 to November 3 in Bali.
Indonesia secured a spot in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup finals after finishing on top of Group F with seven points in the final qualifying round last September.
A total of 16 participating countries will advance to the final round of the U-20 Asian Cup in China and will be divided into four groups. The 16 countries include host China, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Iraq, Iran, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, Syria, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Yemen, and Jordan.
The draw for the groupings in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup will take place on November 17, 2024.
