TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Algerian national team secured their place in the final round after defeating Somalia 3-0 in the Group G 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Africa zone in the early hours of Friday, October 10, 2025. The match took place at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium, Bir El Djir, Algeria.
Algeria opened the scoring through Mohamed Amoura in the seventh minute. They then doubled their lead through Mahrez in the 19th minute. In the second half, Amoura scored his second goal in the 57th minute to increase his team's lead.
Algeria sealed their ticket to compete in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico after collecting 22 points from nine matches, according to CAF (Confederation of African Football). With the points they accumulated, they secured the top spot in the group standings.
Their success in qualifying ends a 12-year wait. Algeria missed the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, last appearing in the final tournament at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
With only one match left in Group G of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, it will be impossible for Uganda, currently in second place, to catch Algeria's point tally.
Meanwhile, Uganda also secured a victory after defeating Botswana 1-0 at the Obert Itani Chilume Stadium, Francistown. Jude Ssemugabi scored the winning goal in the 54th minute of the match.
Although Uganda failed to directly qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the team is still keeping its chances alive by competing as the second-best-ranked team.
Uganda currently sits in second place in the temporary standings of Group G in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Africa zone with 18 points from nine matches, three points ahead of Mozambique in third place.
