TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national team players will start assembling in Jakarta this weekend. Under the guidance of Shin Tae-yong, the Garuda squad will play two home matches in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers against Japan and Saudi Arabia.
Both matches will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta on November 15 and 19, 2024. "The players will gather in Jakarta on November 10," said the Indonesian national team manager Sumardji in his official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 5.
Indonesian national team coach Shin Tae-yong has called up 27 players, consisting of 11 domestic players and 16 overseas players. The players who are likely to join on time are domestic players because League 1 will enter a break period after the Persija Jakarta and Madura United match on Wednesday, November 6.
Persija Jakarta is reinforced by three Indonesian national team players: Rizky Ridho, Muhammad Ferarri, and Witan Sulaeman.
Overseas players are likely to arrive later, as most of their clubs will only play the last matches before the international break on Saturday, November 9, and Sunday, November 10.
From the four matches thus far, the Garuda Team has gathered three points, sitting in fifth place in Group C standings ahead of China at the bottom.
The Indonesian national team is two points behind Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Australia in fourth to second place and is seven points behind Japan at the top of the standings. The top two teams qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup, while the third and fourth-placed teams enter the fourth round.
