TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Even though WhatsApp has a high level of security, there are still vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers to infiltrate user accounts. If your WhatsApp account is being hacked, your personal data could be at risk. Here are three signs that your WhatsApp account is being hacked.

1. Unusual Activity on Your Account

One of the clearest signs that your WhatsApp account has been hacked is the appearance of activities that you did not perform. You may find messages sent from your account that you did not send, or unread messages suddenly marked as read. In addition, new contacts that you do not recognize may appear in your contact list, or unexpected conversations may appear on the screen.

As quoted from Mobile Trans, a more concerning sign is if you receive a verification code that you did not request. This code may be used by hackers to make changes to your account. Hackers who successfully infiltrate your WhatsApp account can access messages and send fake messages to your contacts, aiming to expand their scam reach.

Therefore, if you see any unexplainable activity on your WhatsApp account, this is a strong sign that your account is in danger.

2. Unknown Devices Connected to Your Account

WhatsApp allows its users to access their accounts on various devices through the WhatsApp Web feature. Another sign that your account has been hacked is if there are devices that you do not recognize connected to your WhatsApp account.

Hackers often use WhatsApp Web on their devices to access conversations and important information from the infiltrated account. To check the devices connected to your account, open WhatsApp, then go to Settings and select "Linked Devices". There, you can see a list of all the devices connected to your account.

If there are devices that you do not recognize, immediately log out from those devices by selecting the respective device. Regularly checking the connected devices is an effective way to protect your WhatsApp account from infiltration.

3. Changes to Your Profile

Unauthorized changes to your WhatsApp profile are another sign that your account may have been hacked. You may find that your profile picture, status, or bio has been changed without your knowledge. This is done by hackers to try to impersonate you and deceive others.

As quoted from Forbes, by changing your profile details, they attempt to make others believe that they are communicating with you, while in reality, it is a scam.

In addition, if you find that your name or phone number has been changed without permission, it could also be a sign that your account has been infiltrated. Such profile changes are often done by hackers to add credibility and deceive your contacts into sending money or their personal data.

Understanding the signs that your WhatsApp account is being hacked is crucial to safeguarding your personal data. The security of your WhatsApp account is key to avoiding potential scams and the loss of personal data.
