TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Last Sunday, Prabowo Subianto officially took the oath as President of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term at the Nusantara Building MPR/DPR/DPD in Jakarta. In his first speech after the inauguration, President Prabowo highlighted several points.

1. Prabowo will fulfill the constitutional mandate
In his speech, President Prabowo reaffirmed his commitment to fulfill the constitutional mandate responsibly and emphasized the importance of sincere leadership based on the interests of all Indonesian people, including those who did not vote for him.
"Before this esteemed assembly, before all the people of Indonesia, and most importantly before God Almighty Allah SWT, I Prabowo Subianto and my brother Gibran Rakabuming Raka have sworn to uphold our Constitution, to enforce all applicable laws and regulations, and to serve the country and the nation. We will fulfill this oath to the best of our ability, with full responsibility and with all the strength in our hearts and minds," said President Prabowo, as quoted by the Presidential Press Release of the Republic of Indonesia.
2. Pay respects to Soekarno
Prabowo Subianto conveyed his respect and gratitude to the nation's past heroes and leaders who contributed to the development of Indonesia.
"We are a nation that must be grateful to the liberation generation, Bung Karno, Bung Hatta, other heroes like I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Kapitan Pattimura, Sultan Hasanuddin, Teuku Umar, Cut Nyak Dien, all heroes that we cannot mention one by one, but those who paid their share of independence with their blood and tears," the President said.
President Prabowo also paid special tribute to Bung Karno, the proclaimer and first president of Indonesia, who laid the foundation of the Pancasila state. Regarding President Soeharto, Prabowo said that Soeharto saved and secured the ideology of Pancasila and laid the foundation for modern Indonesia.
3. Affirm Indonesia's support for Palestinian independence
President Prabowo Subianto reiterated Indonesia's full support for the Palestinian people's struggle for independence. Indonesia remains committed to the principles of anti-colonialism, anti-oppression and global solidarity, and continues to stand up for the rights of the Palestinian people amid deteriorating conditions.
"We have a principle that we have to be in solidarity, we have to defend the oppressed people in this world. That's why we support the independence of the Palestinian people," he said President.
In his speech, President Prabowo said that the Indonesian government under President Joko Widodo has been actively sending humanitarian aid to Palestine. Currently, Indonesia has sent medical personnel to assist in the Gaza and Rafah regions.
4. Make self-sufficiency in food and energy a priority
President Prabowo Subianto declared Indonesia's commitment to food and energy self-sufficiency as a first step in addressing increasingly complex global challenges.
"I have declared that Indonesia must achieve food self-sufficiency as soon as possible. We must not depend on external food sources," he stressed.
The president explained that in a global crisis situation, other countries tend to prioritize their domestic interests. Therefore, Indonesia must be able to produce and meet national food needs independently.
"Together with the experts who have assisted me, I am convinced that we will achieve food self-sufficiency within 4-5 years at the most. We are even ready to become the world's food barn," President Prabowo reiterated.
