TEMPO.CO , Jakarta -  Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PPMI) Abdul Kadir Karding sent off 429 Indonesian migrant workers to South Korea on Monday, November 4, 2024.

"Today is the first time for me and the deputy minister (post-inauguration) to send off 429 PMIs to Korea under the G-to-G (government-to-government) scheme," Minister Karding said at the send-off event here.

Of the total PMIs scheduled to leave for South Korea on Monday night, 321 — 250 regular migrant workers and 71 re-entry workers — will work in the manufacturing sector.

The remaining 108 workers — all regular migrant workers — will work in the fisheries sector.

Providing further details, he said that 407 of the total 429 migrant workers are male and 22 are female.

The departure of the 429 migrant workers is part of a G-to-G scheme between Indonesia and South Korea.

At the send-off, Minister Karding emphasized that besides collaborating with the placement countries, his ministry, formerly the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), is also working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to protect workers.

Meanwhile, regarding the security of the workers, the minister said that their departure has been well-calculated in terms of security, both by his ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, the employers have provided security guarantees. Therefore, he expressed the hope that the departure of the migrant workers will run smoothly.

"So, I think everything is fine," he remarked.
