TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several Transjakarta bus stops were damaged as a result of protests that occurred in certain areas of Jakarta on Friday, August 29, 2025, consequently impacting Transjakarta bus operations today.
"Until Saturday morning, seven bus stops were burned by irresponsible individuals," said Head of Public Relations and CSR Department of Transjakarta, Ayu Wardhani, when contacted on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
Ayu detailed the list of bus stops burned by the masses, including the Bundaran Senayan Bus Stop, Pemuda Pramuka Bus Stop, Polda Metro Jaya Bus Stop, Senen Toyota Rangga Bus Stop, Sentral Senen Bus Stop, Senayan Bank DKI Bus Stop, and Gerbang Pemuda Bus Stop.
As a result of the arson, Transjakarta decided not to serve passengers on Saturday morning. "Various considerations and adjusting to the conditions in the field, operations have not returned to normal to serve customers," said Ayu.
She confirmed that the entire Transjakarta fleet had not been serving all routes on Saturday morning. Additionally, Ayu stated that Transjakarta management continues to monitor developing conditions in the field to make quick decisions.
Ayu also urged the public to take care of public facilities, including Transjakarta bus stops, "so that their benefits can continue to be used by many people," she said.
Protesters burned the Senen Sentral Transjakarta Bus Stop on Friday, August 29, 2025. The arson was a consequence of the protests around the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Command Headquarters in Kwitang, Central Jakarta.
Based on Tempo's observation, the protesters burned the Senen Sentral Transjakarta Bus Stop and the surrounding shops. By 9:30 PM local time, the bus stop was already in ashes with shattered glass scattered everywhere. Protesters had been protesting since Thursday night around Brimob headquarters in Kwitang. Until Saturday morning, the masses had not dispersed, even though they had been repeatedly shot with tear gas.
They demanded justice for the death of one of the online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers, Affan Kurniawan, in Pejompongan. Affan died after being run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle. They demanded that the police disclose the identity of the perpetrator who ran over Affan. They also expressed doubt about the investigation of the perpetrator because it was the same institution.
