TEMPO.CO, JakartaApple Inc. has announced plans to produce its sophisticated tracking device, AirTag, in Indonesia. This development follows President Prabowo Subianto's approval of a US$1 billion investment proposal from the U.S. technology company.

What is AirTag?

AirTag is a small tracking device designed to help users locate valuable items such as keys, wallets, suitcases, or bags. By using the “Find My” application on Apple devices, users can monitor the location of items attached to an AirTag.

This is particularly useful for individuals who frequently misplace items or are concerned about losing important belongings. AirTag uses Bluetooth technology to communicate with nearby Apple devices and provide real-time location updates.

AirTag's Key Features

According to Apple's official website, AirTag offers several features to facilitate item tracking. One of its primary features is the ability to play a sound through the AirTag's built-in speaker. This is helpful when an item is misplaced nearby, such as under a sofa or in another room.

In addition, AirTag uses Apple's global network of devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs, to track the location of items over greater distances. This process operates anonymously and is encrypted to protect user privacy.

AirTag also includes a Lost Mode, which allows users to receive automatic notifications when the device is detected by the Find My network.

A key advantage of AirTag is its focus on privacy protection. All tracking processes are conducted anonymously and with encryption, ensuring that even Apple cannot access a user's specific location. This guarantees that location data and history are never stored on the AirTag itself.

Additionally, AirTag incorporates an unwanted tracking prevention feature. If someone carries an AirTag that is not registered to their Apple ID, their Apple device will issue an alert. This is an important measure to maintain user privacy and prevent misuse of the device.

AirTag uses an easily replaceable battery designed to last more than a year under normal use. Apple also certifies AirTag as water and dust-resistant with an IP67 rating, ensuring the device continues to function even when exposed to splashes or spills.

How to Use AirTag

To begin using AirTag, simply hold it close to an iPhone or iPad; it will connect to the device within seconds.

The setup process is straightforward, requiring only a few taps on the screen. Once connected, users can assign a name to the AirTag corresponding to the item being tracked, such as “House Keys” or “School Bag”.

If a tracked item is misplaced, users can open the “Find My” app and track its location on a map. If the item is nearby, users can activate a sound from the AirTag to aid in locating it. If the item is further away, AirTag uses the network of other Apple devices to assist in the search.
