TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Personnel of Subdit IV Ditreskrimum Aceh Police have successfully uncovered a case of human trafficking against migrant workers. The two perpetrators' initials are 'RH' and 'JS'. They were arrested for committing a crime by promising the victim work abroad with a high salary. The victim was tricked into joining a love scamming worker syndicate and threatened to be killed if she ran away.
Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Aceh Police, Senior Commissioner Ade Harianto, revealed that the perpetrators were successfully tracked down in two different locations on Friday, December 20, 2024. In this case, the police arrested two suspected perpetrators separately by the Subdit IV Investigative Team and the IT Team of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Aceh Police, who were also assisted by Investigators from the Bireuen Police.
Not only that, the process of arresting the perpetrators also involved the community, the DPD RI, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), and the Aceh Police Security Intelligence Directorate who fully supported the disclosure action by the Aceh Police by always providing interrelated information.
Ade Harianto said, "Two alleged perpetrators were arrested in uncovering this human trafficking case." The two perpetrators, who came from Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, promised the victim to work as an Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI), namely a sales worker in Laos. The two perpetrators convinced the victim with a high salary with bonuses and a guarantee of legal work.
Initially, the victim was promised to become a migrant worker in Laos. The victim was sent via Riau to Malaysia, Thailand, and then arrived in Laos. When he arrived in Malaysia, all of the victim's identities were confiscated by another agent who was part of the RH gang. After that, the victim was informed that the victim had been sold to a boss in Laos for IDR 10 million. This information was conveyed by Ade Harianto in his statement when met on Monday, December 23, 2024.
Ade then revealed that when he arrived in Laos, the victim was required to work as a love scamming admin, which is one of the most common cybercrime modes in this digital era. The victim was forced to become a fraudster while in Laos. If the victim fails to meet the set target, they are threatened to be sold back to Myanmar. If at some point the victim is determined to try to escape, they are also threatened with being killed.
The two criminals who committed the crime of human trafficking (TPPO) are currently being charged with Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Migrant Workers and are suspected of violating Article 10 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Human Trafficking. The perpetrators are currently facing a minimum sentence of three years and a maximum of 15 years in prison.
Regarding this incident, Ade on behalf of the Aceh Police appealed to the public, especially teenagers who have just finished high school or students who have skills in the fields of communication and ITE to always be vigilant and careful with job applications currently circulating.
Job seekers are required not to be tempted to work abroad with guarantees of high salaries and bonuses without clear and transparent information. From an early age, teenagers and students are encouraged not to be involved in criminal acts in the field of scamming work because it can harm many parties and is against the law in Indonesia and regulations in other countries.
