TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The platform Apple Music will add Transparency Tags to differentiate music created or assisted by AI. This policy changes the mechanism of labeling AI content by labels and distributors when uploading their work to the platform.
According to Music Business Worldwide, Apple sent a bulletin to industry partners on Wednesday to explain its new plan for launching metadata aimed at increasing transparency regarding the use of AI in music production.
Until now, metadata includes information such as song title, album title, genre, artist name, and other descriptions to organize files. "Now Apple Music will add the option to include metadata tags that distributors can use to flag when AI-generated content is involved in certain aspects of a song," as reported by Tech Crunch, March 4, 2026.
According to the report, these tags will allow distributors to differentiate whether AI was used in artwork, tracks (music), composition (lyrics), or music videos.
Interest in such transparency features is also evident from user responses. However, the labeling system is optional, so the decision to disclose the use of AI remains with the label or distributor. Other platforms such as Spotify have adopted a similar approach.
Meanwhile, streaming services like Deezer are developing internal AI detection tools that can automatically mark content, though achieving the right level of accuracy remains challenging.
