TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2026 Grammy Awards rewrote the history books. Among the night’s standout stars was Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican rapper who claimed Album of the Year for the first Spanish-language album ever to win the category.
With his critically acclaimed album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” Bad Bunny defeated fellow global superstars, including Justin Bieber with “Swag”, Sabrina Carpenter with “Man’s Best Friend”, Clipse, Pusha T and Malice with “Let God Sort Em Out”, Kendrick Lamar with “GNX”, Leon Thomas with “Mutt,” and Tyler, the Creator with “Chromakopia.”
Receiving the gramophone from Harry Styles, the category’s 2023 winner, Bad Bunny delivered his acceptance speech in both English and Spanish. In doing so, he proudly paid homage to his Puerto Rican roots.
As translated by USA Today, Bad Bunny said, “Puerto Rico, believe me when I tell you, when we're much bigger than 100 x 35 [miles], and there's nothing we can't achieve.”
He also expressed gratitude for achieving this milestone, adding, “Thank you, God. Thank you to the Academy. Thank you to everyone who has believed in me throughout my entire career. Thank you to all the people who have worked on this album.”
Switching to English, Bad Bunny added, “I want to dedicate this award to all the people who had to leave their homeland to follow their dreams.”
Alongside Album of the Year, Bad Bunny also secured two additional wins at the 2026 Grammy Awards. His track “EoO” earned Best Global Music Performance, while “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” also won Best Música Urbana Album.
These victories were far from Bad Bunny’s first triumphs at the Grammys. According to Variety, he previously won three awards, including two for best música úrban album (“Un Verano Sin Ti” in 2023 and “El Último Tour Del Mundo” in 2022) and one for best latin pop or urban album (“YHLQMDLG” in 2021).
