TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rescuers are pausing the search efforts for victims of the landslide in Cisarua, West Bandung Regency, West Java, on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, as bad weather hits the area.
The Head of the Bandung Search and Rescue (SAR) Office, Ade Dian, explained that the rain and strong winds caused the ground around the site to become unstable, risking subsequent landslides.
He expressed concern for the safety of rescuers if the search operation continues under such conditions. "The search cannot continue. Personnel safety is the priority," said Ade in his statement, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026.
He also mentioned that the thick mud at the landslide location made it difficult for personnel to evacuate the victims. According to Ade, there are still victims buried under landslide materials in Cisarua.
Ade said the search for the Cisarua landslide victims will resume once the weather improves. The local government has proposed to carry out the search for two weeks, with an evaluation on the seventh day.
"Later, it will be evaluated whether an extension is necessary, depending on the search results," he said.
The landslide hit Babakan Cibudah Hamlet, Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, on Saturday, January 24, 2026. The disaster struck after heavy rain inundated the West Bandung area the day before.
The Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Mohammad Syafii stated that entering the fourth day of the search operations, rescuers have found 47 bodies.
"As of today at 05:30 p.m., the body bags found by the joint SAR team amounted to 47," said Syafii, on Tuesday.
