TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The exchange rate of the rupiah at Wednesday's closing of the trading strengthened by 2 points or 0.01 percent to Rp16,585 per U.S. dollar from the previous Rp16,587 per U.S. dollar.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) from Bank Indonesia (BI) today weakened to Rp16,617 per U.S. dollar from the previous Rp16,589 per U.S. dollar.

Analyst from Bank Woori Saudara, Rully Nova, said that the strengthening of the exchange rate (rate) of rupiah was influenced by Bank Indonesia's decision to hold the benchmark interest rate.

"The rupiah in today's trading is more influenced by domestic factors, where BI decided not to change the interest rate at 4.75 percent," he said to Antara in Jakarta on Wednesday.

At the Board of Governors Meeting (RDG) of BI on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, it was decided that the benchmark interest rate (BI Rate) would remain at 4.75 percent.

The interest rate on the deposit facility was decided to remain at 3.75 percent. The lending facility interest rate was also decided to remain at 5.5 percent.

According to BI, the decision is consistent with the inflation forecast for 2025 and 2026, which remains below the 2.51 percent target. This is an effort to maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate in line with the fundamentals amid still-high global uncertainty, as well as to strengthen economic growth through synergy.

"External pressure on the rupiah is still high amid the uncertainty of the U.S.-China tariff war. The ongoing U.S. government shutdown for nearly a month has resulted in minimal economic data releases, making it difficult for the Fed to make decisions regarding interest rates," said Rully.
