TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Barcelona has won the 2026 Spanish Super Cup after defeating their arch-rivals Real Madrid with a score of 3-2 in the final match at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, January 11th, 2026 local time. This victory secured the 16th Spanish Super Cup title for the Catalan club.
Two goals from Raphinha and one from Robert Lewandowski determined Barcelona's victory. Real Madrid managed to equalize twice through Vinicius Junior and Gonzalo Garcia, but failed to maintain the momentum until the final whistle.
Madrid showcased aggressiveness from the beginning of the match. Vinicius Junior posed a threat with a shot that was still saved by Barcelona's goalkeeper, Joan Garcia. Barcelona responded with a chance from Raphinha, but his shot missed the target.
The deadlock was broken in the 36th minute when Raphinha scored the opening goal for Barcelona through individual action before defeating Thibaut Courtois. Madrid equalized during stoppage time in the first half. Vinicius Junior passed several Barcelona players before converting a chance into a goal in the 45+2 minute.
Madrid's lead didn't last long. Two minutes later, Pedri's pass was met by Robert Lewandowski to bring Barcelona back into the lead at 2-1. However, Madrid equalized again through Gonzalo Garcia who capitalized on a rebound in the penalty box in the 45+7 minute. The first half ended in a 2-2 draw.
Entering the second half, Madrid once again took the initiative in attacks. Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo created chances in turn, but Joan Garcia was alert under Barcelona's goal. The decisive goal for Barcelona's victory was scored in the 73rd minute. Dani Olmo delivered a pass which Raphinha converted into his second goal of the match, changing the score to 3-2.
Barcelona had to play with 10 men from the 90+1 minute after Frenkie de Jong was shown a straight red card for a harsh foul. Despite being pressed for the remaining time, Barcelona managed to maintain their lead until the end of the match.
This title adds to Barcelona's collection of Spanish Super Cup titles after previously winning the event in 1983, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2023, and 2025.
Coach's Reactions
Barcelona's coach Hansi Flick expressed his pride in his team's performance. He mentioned that the victory against Real Madrid held special significance for his squad. "This Super Cup is very important for us, and winning it against Real Madrid makes it even bigger," said Flick after the match, as quoted from Barcelona's official website. "Most importantly for me is that we could win while applying our style of play. I am very proud of all the players."
The German coach believes that Barcelona was able to control the game in an intense match. "We played very well and fought as a team. This team's mentality is extraordinary, and we deserve it," said Flick.
He is also optimistic about the future. "When we focus on playing as a team like tonight, it makes me confident about what we can achieve in the future."
Meanwhile, Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso described the final as very balanced despite his team's defeat. "There are mixed feelings. We are disappointed for not winning the final, but also proud because the team gave everything from the first minute to the last. We fought until the end and almost equalized," he said, as quoted from Real Madrid's official website.
Alonso emphasized that Madrid will soon forget the failure in the Spanish Super Cup. "The season is still long. We have to quickly bounce back, recover the players, and focus on all the competitions we are still in," he stated.
