TEMPO.CO, BandungThe Climatology Station of the West Java Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts moderate-intensity rain to dominate during the holy month of Ramadan, with rainfall ranging from 100-300 milliliters per month.

The Head of the Climatology Station of West Java BMKG, Rakhmat Prasetia, says on Tuesday, February 25, that moderate intensity rainfall will occur in West Java “from March to May 2025.”

In March 2025, about 59.5 percent of the West Java region will experience moderate-intensity rainfall ranging from 100 to 300 millimeters per month. Meanwhile, 39.4 percent of the region will be hit by high to very high rainfall with intensity ranging from 300 to 500 millimeters per month, and only 1.1 percent of the region is expecting light-intensity rainfall this month.

The moderate-intensity rainfall is expected to wet Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, Karawang, Subang, Indramayu, Purwakarta Sukabumi, and Cianjur. BMKG also mentions Greater Bandung, which encompasses Bandung City and Regency, West Bandung Regency, and the City of Cimahi, as well as part of Garut and Tasikmalaya, the City of Banjar and Pangandaran.

Meanwhile, high-intensity rainfall will pour over areas bordering the Bogor Regency with the Sukabumi Regency, the southern part of Sukabumi bordering Banten, and parts of Cianjur to Garut.

Downpours are also expected in Tasikmalaya City and the surrounding areas bordering the Tasikmalaya Regency and Ciamis, Kuningan, Majalengka, the Cities and Regency of Cirebon, Indramayu, Sumedang, the southern part of Subang, and part of Purwakarta.

Meanwhile, a small part of West Java is forecasted to receive light-intensity rain, namely the northern part of Karawang.

In April, BMKG also predicts about 55.8 percent of the West Java region will receive moderate-category rainfall, while 40.1 percent will experience high-intensity rain, and 4.1 percent of the area will experience low-category rainfall.

The weather agency expects 80.4 percent of the West Java region to be hit with moderate-intensity rainfall in May, while 13.5 percent expects downpours and 6.1 percent expects light rains.

The rainfall forecasts for March, April, and May 2025 are issued by BMKG based on rainfall data observations from stations and rainfall posts in the West Java region. The data is derived by processing rainfall data, taking into account global, regional, and local atmospheric sea dynamics.

BMKG observes a positive weather anomaly from February to July 2025, with sea surface temperature being warmer than the baseline. As a result, in March, April, and May, moderate-intensity rainfall will dominate the West Java region, with the general characteristic of rainfall falling within the normal category.
