TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Just like the weather that has been accompanying nearly the entire week, rain is predicted to occur throughout the Greater Jakarta area on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts rain today in all areas, in Jakarta and its surrounding regions.

Some areas are even expected to experience high intensity rain, such as Bogor Regency and City, as well as South Tangerang City. Meanwhile, some other parts are predicted to receive light rainfall, and all three are said to have moderate intensity rain throughout today. While the Thousand Islands, East Jakarta, and South Jakarta have the potential for high-intensity rain accompanied by thunder.

Previously, in the Weekly Weather Outlook for the period of January 16-22, 2026, BMKG advised Jakarta, as well as Banten and West Java, to be on alert for the potential of heavy to very heavy rain from January 16-18. The weather warning for the West Java region extends until January 22.

According to BMKG, in the upcoming week, there is a potential for an increase in cold surges from Asia. This has an impact on the increase in extreme weather events in several regions in Southern Indonesia, especially in the southern part of Sumatra and Java Island.

Furthermore, there is a seedling of cyclone 96S, which is predicted to have a persistent movement, affecting wind patterns, including the convergence zone in the Java Sea. The convergence condition can increase the potential for the growth of rain clouds.

BMKG also revealed the presence of a weak La Nina factor, which has the potential to increase the supply of water vapor that supports the formation of rain clouds in several regions of Indonesia. Meanwhile, the relatively warm sea surface temperature in some Indonesian waters also enriches the water vapor supply that supports the formation of rain clouds in Indonesia.
