Consulate General Reports 95 Indonesians Safe, 35 Missing in Hong Kong Blaze

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Hong Kong has reported that the confirmed number of Indonesian nationals who survived the Hong Kong fire is 95 people.

"The estimated number of Indonesian nationals residing in the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex, Tai Po, in Hong Kong is 140 people, of whom 95 have survived," according to a written statement from KJRI Hong Kong received by Antara in Jakarta on Monday, December 1, 2025.

So far, the KJRI has not provided updates on the data concerning the number of Indonesians who have died and been injured as a result of the fire. KJRI added that the whereabouts of 35 Indonesians are still unknown.

Previously, on the previous Sunday, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the total number of Indonesian nationals who had died had reached 9, with 3 others injured. Some of the victims were Indonesian migrant workers employed in the domestic sector.

KJRI Hong Kong stated that 146 people died and 79 were seriously injured as a result of the fire, and emphasized that the search for victims is still ongoing by the local authorities.

The Hong Kong authorities also warned that the death toll is expected to rise as the search and identification of victims are still ongoing. 11 people have been arrested in connection with the major fire incident.

On Sunday, the spokesperson for the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Yvonne Mewengkang, confirmed that KJRI Hong Kong has formed a family coordination team to facilitate the repatriation of the bodies of Indonesian victims of the fire.

She stated that the team is responsible for ensuring that all necessary information and inquiries from the families of the Indonesian victims of the fire are well-managed.
