TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has officially become one of Danantara's advisors. As quoted from Antara, Danantara's Investment Management Agency (BPI) announced the composition of the Advisory Board today, on Monday, March 24, 2025. In addition to Thaksin, other names include Ray Dalio, Helman Sitohang, Jeffrey Sachs, and Chapman Taylor.

The first member of the advisory board is Ray Dalio. He is Bridgewater Associates' founder, the world's largest hedge fund with assets under management of more than US$124 billion. Dalio is known as an innovative investment strategist, such as risk parity and the All Weather portfolio. He has been an economic advisor to various global policymakers.

In a meeting at the Presidential Palace, President Prabowo Subianto called Dalio a friend he hopes will become a strategic partner for Indonesia in promoting more inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

The second advisory board member, Helman Sitohang, is the former CEO of Credit Suisse Asia Pacific. With over two decades of experience in investment banking, Sitohang has handled transactions worth more than US$200 billion, including fundraising and mergers and acquisitions in Southeast Asia. His leadership at Credit Suisse earned him the Outstanding Achievement Award from FinanceAsia.

The third advisory board member is Jeffrey Sachs. He is a widely known global economist in sustainable development and has contributed to BPI Danantara. Sachs, who once served as an economic advisor to Indonesia after the 1998 crisis, has long been involved in developing strategies to alleviate poverty and global economic development. He is also the author of several best-selling economics books such as The End of Poverty and Common Wealth.

The fourth advisory board member is Chapman Taylor, an Equity Portfolio Manager at Capital Group with over three decades of investing experience in Asia. His investment focus includes the telecommunications sector and emerging markets such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia, making him a valuable asset in designing long-term investment strategies.

Lastly, the fifth advisory board member is Thaksin Shinawatra. He is a political figure and businessman who served as the Prime Minister of Thailand from 2001 to 2006. Before becoming an entrepreneur in the telecommunications industry, Thaksin began his career as a police officer.

His telecommunications business started as a small computer dealer established in 1987, which later grew into Shin Corporation, the largest telecommunications company in Thailand.

Thaksin's political career began in the 1990s when he was appointed as the Foreign Minister of Thailand from 1994 to 1995. Subsequently, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand from 1995 to 1997 under the leadership of Banharn Silpa-archa and Chavalit Yongchaiyudh.
