TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Defense Ministry has spoken up about the reasons behind the appointment of Deodatus Andreas Deddy Cahyadi Sunjoyo, also known as Deddy Corbuzier, as special staff to Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.
Deddy was inaugurated as Special Staff for the Defense Minister in the field of Social and Public Communication at the Defense Ministry office in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang, Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Defense Ministry, stated that Minister Sjafrie appointed Deddy based on the consideration that Deddy is a communications expert and active in social media.
According to him, Deddy can communicate publicly on behalf of the Defense Ministry not only through conventional media but also through social media.
"Hopefully, with Deddy assisting as special staff, he can further disseminate the Defense Ministry's policies to the public," said Frega to Tempo, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Another reason for Deddy's appointment is his role as National Defense Ambassador and Reserve Component Ambassador.
Frega mentioned that Deddy has already been involved in promoting the Ministry's programs. "Therefore, he is expected to keep making a positive contribution to help spread information related to the Defense Ministry's policies," he added.
He confirmed that Deddy's appointment received approval from President Prabowo Subianto, in accordance with Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 137 of 2024 regarding Presidential Special Advisors, Presidential Special Envoys, Presidential Special Staff, and Vice Presidential Special Staff.
The regulation stipulates that prospective special staff appointments are reported to the State Secretariat Ministry and then require presidential approval before a Presidential Decree is issued.
"All procedures follow the Presidential Decree. We cannot appoint special staff without a presidential decree. That's why the inauguration took place after the issuance of the Presidential Decree, and then the Defense Minister's Decree is issued," said Frega.
In addition to Deddy, four other individuals were also inaugurated as Special Staff to the Defense Minister: Major General (Ret.) Sudrajat as Special Staff for Defense Diplomacy, Kris Wijoyo Soepandji as Special Staff for State Administration, Lenis Kogoya as Special Staff for Indonesian Sovereignty, and Indra Irawan as Special Staff for Defense Economics.
Sylvia Efi Widyantari Sumarlin was also appointed as Special Assistant to the Defense Minister in the field of Cyber Security.
Deddy Corbuzier is known as an influencer who often expresses support for government programs on social media. However, some of his recent social media activities have drawn public criticism.
