TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police's Antiterror Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) stated that the suspected perpetrator of the explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta high school, who is a student, assembled the explosive materials himself and then brought the seven bombs to the school.
"That's right, (the student) assembled (the bombs) himself," said the spokesperson for Densus 88, AKBP Mayndra Eka Wardhana, when confirmed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Eka stated that the police also found digital traces of the child accessing sites containing videos of people who were killed in accidents and wars.
At the time of the explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta, the student was suspected of bringing seven explosive materials. Four of them exploded at two points and the other three did not detonate.
The explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025. The incident took place around 12:30 PM when the students and teachers were performing Friday prayers in the school's mosque located in the Kompleks Kodamar, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
The explosion occurred twice. The first explosion was inside the third-floor mosque. Then, followed by the second explosion a few minutes later from the rear area of the canteen. The explosions caused at least 96 people to be injured, including the suspected perpetrator.
The explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta school is suspected to have been planned by the student. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the suspected perpetrator is currently in police custody and his subordinates are investigating the perpetrator's identity, environment, and place of residence.
Listyo mentioned that the police are still investigating the perpetrator's motive. "We are examining the motive of why the person assembled (the bombs) and carried out the action; all will be explained later after all informations, findings, investigation results have been completed," said Listyo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Friday, November 7, 2025.
