TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A noticeable dark bruise on the right hand of the United States President Donald Trump has attracted much attention, raising questions about his health. The dark color was captured on camera during his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in the Oval Room of the White House in Washington, United States, on February 24, 2025.
Bruises are indeed common among elderly people and those taking blood-thinning medications. Dr. Gareth Nye from England assumed that the bruise could be from an injection site on the 78-year-old head of state.
Nye told Daily Star on February 25, 2025, that bruises are more common in older adults due to skin thinning and the weakening of blood vessels. It can appear even from minor impacts and often does not indicate a significant health issue.
Nye added that increased bruising can also be attributed to the use of blood thinners or excessive sun exposure. It could also be a condition called Actinic Purpura, which causes bruises similar to those from injection sites, even without evidence of intravenous drug use.
Knee Tapping and Control
Furthermore, the meeting between Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron drew attention for their attempts to project a friendly demeanor despite their 31-year age difference. This was seen when Macron touched Trump's knee as a playful gesture, which seemed to displease Trump. So, Macron attempted to take Trump's hand and place it on his own knee, a move observed by numerous onlookers.
Body language expert Adrianne Carter from adriannecarter.com explained that Macron took the initiative to start the interaction by poking Trump's knee, a gesture often associated with dominance or taking control. However, Trump is highly skilled in using body language to maintain control and send his intended messages as he wishes.
Carter said Trump, refusing to be dominated, immediately responded by tapping Macron's knee. In response, Macron countered by holding Trump's wrist to regain control of the interaction.
