TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A video claiming that Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa would provide Rp50 million in cash assistance to the public has been circulating on Facebook [archive] since December 25, 2025.

In the 20-second video, Purbaya stated that the cash distribution was part of President Prabowo Subianto's program. "I, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, want to inform you that this assistance is indiscriminate; everyone is entitled to it. Register now and enter your personal information," he said.

However, is the video of Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa claiming to be distributing Rp50 million in cash assistance genuine?

FACT CHECK

Tempo verified the video using Google's reverse image search feature and an AI detection tool. The results showed that the image of Purbaya in the circulating video was manipulated by AI.

The visual material is identical to the photo of Purbaya in the third slide on the Ministry of Finance's official Instagram account, @menkeuri. The original photo was taken when the former Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) met with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) at the Ministry of Finance office on Friday morning, December 19, 2025.

The original post was captioned, "Minister Purbaya held another discussion with the @kadin.indonesia.official staff at the @kemenkeuri office this morning. The aspirations of business actors are crucial in creating a healthier, more conducive, and competitive business and investment climate. The government is committed to continuing to open dialogue and strengthening synergies with the business world to encourage higher national economic growth."

The Kadin meeting was attended by associations and business actors in the furniture and electronics sectors. Anindya Bakrie, Chairperson of Kadin for the 2024-2029 period, explained via his Instagram account that they discussed deregulation and incentives to support the furniture and electronics sectors.

There was no discussion about distributing Rp50 million to the public.

Furthermore, Tempo tested the 20-second video using Hive Moderation. The tool determined the presence of AI elements in both the video and audio, with aggregates of 97 percent and 99 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, analysis using the WasitAI detection tool concluded that Purbaya's face in the video was generated by AI.

CONCLUSION

Based on Tempo's investigation, the claim that Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa distributed Rp50 million in cash assistance is false.
