Is it true that Turkiye has deployed thousands of helicopters to Iran?

FACT CHECK

Tempo verified the content through a Google reverse image search and compared it with credible sources. The results showed that the circulating video was part of a South Korean military air show exercise ahead of the 77th Armed Forces Day commemoration on October 1, 2024, in Seoul, South Korea.

The video of dozens of helicopters is identical to a video uploaded by the RadiomirEnergy YouTube channel on October 24, 2024. The caption of the post states that the footage of the helicopters was taken in South Korea on September 11, 2024.

Several other accounts also recorded the aerial display, including the YouTube channel “Travel Korea with Kids” and the Korean-language accounts Kim Cho-si and Mingy.

The Korean television station Yoo Yong-won TV provided live coverage of the dress rehearsal for the 2024 Armed Forces Day military parade. The report featured a formation of 76 helicopters from 10:46 to 12:39, as well as a special forces parachute jump.

According to the News1.kr website, the ceremony continued with a taekwondo demonstration, an aerial display, and maneuvers by the Black Eagles team. The entire series of events symbolized national harmony and the prosperity of the Republic of Korea.

An amphibious assault helicopter (MAH) was first seen from the upper left side of the ceremony site, and a formation of rotary-wing aircraft operated by our military, including the Light Armed Helicopter (LAH), the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, the Korean utility helicopter KUH-1 Surion, the CH-47 Chinook, the UH/HH-60 Black Hawk, the MUH-1 Marineon amphibious assault helicopter, and the Lynx and Wildcat maritime operation helicopters, adorned the sky.

The LAH’s tactical maneuvers were the highlight of the show. The helicopter streaked straight ahead at 270 kilometers per hour, then performed a spin that drew thunderous applause from the audience.

CONCLUSION

Tempo’s verification concludes that the claim in the Turkish video that thousands of helicopters were deployed to Iran is false.
