TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Executive Vice President Corporate Secretary of PT Hutama Karya (Persero), Mardiansyah, spoke after the toll road section was used as an emergency runway following the Indonesian Air Force's (TNI AU) fighter jet landing and takeoff test on the Terpeka section of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS).
"Using the toll road section as an emergency runway is a form of infrastructure optimization for the benefit of the state," Mardiansyah said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The Terpeka toll road section (Terbanggi Besar–Pematang Panggang–Kayu Agung) was used as the location for the fighter jet landing test to strengthen the operational readiness of the emergency runway to support national defense. This activity also marked the first fighter jet landing on a toll road section in Indonesia.
This test is part of efforts to increase national preparedness through the optimization of strategic infrastructure. The company's role in this activity reflects Hutama Karya's commitment to participating in national strategic programs.
Hutama Karya, Mardiansyah stated, supports cross-sector synergy in strengthening national preparedness. "This will ensure that safety, security, and operational reliability standards are optimally met."
Regarding infrastructure adjustments, the road median design will be changed while still prioritizing the safety of toll road users. Hutama Karya also informed that the Terpeka Toll Road segment from the Lambu Kibang Toll Gate (KM 202+036) to the Simpang Pematang Toll Gate (KM 239+907) will resume normal operations starting February 11, 2026, at 3:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
"With the reopening of this segment, toll road operations are now running normally and can be traversed in accordance with applicable regulations. We urge all road users to continue to comply with signs and the instructions of officers in the field to ensure everyone's safety and comfort," Mardiansyah said.
The two Indonesian Air Force fighter jets conducting landing and takeoff tests on the Terpeka Toll Road were an EMB-314 Super Tucano and an F-16. Deputy Minister of Defense, Air Marshal (Ret.) Donny Ermawan Taufanto, explained that the landing and takeoff tests of the fighter jets were successful and safe. This test was the first of its kind on a toll road in Indonesia.
According to Donny, this test marks an important milestone in strengthening the nation's defense system, particularly in preparing civilian infrastructure that can be used for defense purposes in emergencies.
He explained that the two types of fighter jets tested have different characteristics. The Super Tucano is a turboprop aircraft used by the Indonesian Air Force for air patrol, reconnaissance, and close air support. The F-16 is a supersonic fighter jet that serves as the vanguard of national air defense.
Donny stated that this test is not merely a showpiece, but part of a broader national defense concept that involves all elements, including civilian infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti revealed the strategic value of toll roads after Indonesian Air Force fighter jets successfully conducted landing and takeoff tests on them. The strategic value of toll road infrastructure not only supports connectivity but also broader national interests.
"Thank God. Thank you for the safe landing test of fighter jets on this toll road segment. We will use this as a reference," Diana said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 12, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
