TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - France has expressed its commitment to supporting Indonesia's Free Milk and Nutritious Meals in Schools program. This commitment was demonstrated by the visit of French Ambassador Fabien Penone to a pilot project of the program in 15 schools in Warungkiara District, Sukabumi, on October 17, 2024.
Through a partnership between the Indonesia Food Security Review (IFSR) and the Prabowo Subianto Foundation, this pilot project is intended to support the Free Milk and Nutritious Meals Program in Schools initiated by the new government of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
The initiative aims to serve as a model for how the Indonesian government and development partners can utilize nutritious school meals to support education and break the cycle of poverty among underprivileged communities.
“The Free Milk and Nutritious Meals Program has the potential to have a major impact on the health and education of Indonesia's young generation,” said French Ambassador Fabien Penone, as quoted from a press release on Tuesday, October 22.

He further believes that the program supports Indonesia's agricultural production and food system, contributing to the country's development through poverty reduction.
The French Embassy in Jakarta has also expressed its support for Indonesia's efforts to join the Global Coalition of School Meals, launched in 2021 at the UN Food Systems Summit. Ambassador Penone mentioned that France has allocated Rp4.5 billion to support the World Food Program's technical assistance package for planning, launching, and implementing Indonesia's Free Nutritious Meals Program.
Additionally, France and Indonesia have discussed the possibility of deploying French technical expertise to assist in the program's implementation.
