TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Health said on Thursday, January 9, 2025, that a free health check-up program will commence next month, and it has coordinated with President Prabowo Subianto, who will later determine the exact date to inaugurate the program.
Prabowo previously planned a free health check program for citizens celebrating their birthdays, with an allotted budget of Rp3.2 trillion.
According to Budi, the program will commence simultaneously across Indonesia. For now, the Ministry of Health claims to be ready to disseminate the information about the free health check program this month.
“We will start communicating about the program with regional officials next week,” said Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
In general, the health check program will encompass three health elements, namely blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood fat or cholesterol. Budi said the screening is aimed at preventing diseases that cause the highest mortality rate in Indonesia, namely stroke and heart disease.
By facilitating a free health check-up, Budi hopes Indonesian citizens can detect health problems early, to avoid stroke or cancer.
As for its implementation, the Ministry of Health will cooperate with 10 thousand public health centers and 15 to 20 thousand private clinics to conduct health checks for toddlers, adults, and the elderly.
Meanwhile, for students under 18 years old, the free health check will be carried out at their respective schools regardless of birthdays.
Budi said the measure is taken to ensure the government achieves the target of health check-ups for 280 million people across the country. “Hospitals alone will be inadequate, considering the massive scale of the program, which targets hundreds of millions of people,” he said.
