TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - French President Emmanuel Macron has informed Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, of his intention to visit Indonesia in May 2025.
According to a press release from the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, as reported by Antara, Macron conveyed his travel plans to Minister Meutya during the AI Action Summit held in Paris, France, on Tuesday.
"I will...I will...I love your country," Macron said to Meutya.
If this visit takes place, it will be the French President's first state visit to Indonesia since the two countries signed a joint declaration of a strategic partnership in 2011. That year, then-Prime Minister Francois Fillon and then-President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met in Jakarta.
Meutya stated that Macron's visit will be a significant step in strengthening the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and France.
"President Macron's visit to Indonesia will further strengthen strategic cooperation in various sectors, including digital economy, artificial intelligence, defense, and green energy," she said.
Indonesia and France maintain close diplomatic ties with cooperation in various areas, including trade, defense, and technology.
Macron's visit is expected to mark a new chapter in the strategic partnership between the two nations, especially as they address global challenges in the digital age.
During his visit, President Macron is scheduled to meet with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and participate in several strategic events focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Minister Meutya Hafid was in Paris representing President Prabowo at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit held from February 10 to 11, 2025.
