TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has temporarily halted its Jakarta-Doha, Qatar route until the situation in the Middle East permits safe passage.
Garuda Indonesia's Commercial Director, Ade R. Susardi, said that the company is prioritizing the safety and comfort of its passengers.
"We are observing the situation. For the time being, we'll stop for about a week while monitoring developments," Ade said when met in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
Ade explained that Garuda Indonesia is continuously monitoring the situation. The airline wants to ensure safety in the Middle East region first, guaranteeing the safety of both outbound and return journeys.
"Our team will monitor all situations; once it's deemed safer, flights will definitely resume," he said.
Ade also explained that Garuda Indonesia's Jakarta-Doha flight had to turn back on Monday, June 23, 2025, as the airspace on that route was closed for the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors.
Furthermore, he said, Garuda Indonesia received this information after the aircraft had already departed for Doha.
"Because the plane had taken off, the cockpit was informed, and then the plane turned back. It returned last night, refueled at Kualanamu Airport, and was then brought to Jakarta," he added.
