TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has stated that he is still awaiting instructions from President Prabowo Subianto regarding the distribution of duties, including the oversight of the free nutritious meal program.
“We will have a cabinet meeting after this. We are anticipating directives from President Prabowo,” Gibran remarked during an inspection of the free meal trial in North Jakarta on Wednesday, October 23.
He explained that his duties are likely to align with those of his predecessor, Ma'ruf Amin. However, he will continue to wait for specific instructions from the President.
At the beginning of his term, Ma'ruf Amin revealed his responsibilities as Vice President, which included managing Islamic economic empowerment, stunting, poverty, and disaster management.
Since the official inauguration on October 20, Gibran has supervised the free nutritious meal trial and inspected the MRT phase II project and the construction of the Sports Center in Cibubur.
Today, Jokowi’s eldest son made his second visit to monitor the free nutritious meal program at SMPN 270 North Jakarta, accompanied by the Acting Governor of Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi.
He emphasized that as Vice President, he must actively support the President in field visits.
“We are the President's aides. We ensure the smooth progress of ongoing developments, particularly national strategic projects before being inaugurated by President Prabowo,” Gibran said.
According to Article 4 paragraph 2 of the 1945 Constitution, the Vice President is appointed as the President's assistant in carrying out government duties. The Vice President's position cannot be equated with a minister in the cabinet although both are presidential assistants. Despite having passive authority, the Vice President's position is higher than that of a minister as he serves as the President's substitute.
