TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The search for victims of the Glodok Plaza fire in West Jakarta is still ongoing. Acting Jakarta Governor Teguh Setyabudi said the search would be carried out for 7 days. However, the search duration could be extended if needed. "Looking at the situation, it could be extended," said Teguh at the location of the Glodok Plaza fire, Saturday, January 18, 2025.

Teguh came to the location to directly review the search for victims. He even had time to ride the Bronto skylift so he could see the conditions on the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors that had been burned down.

Teguh expressed his concern at seeing the conditions in the plaza area that had been burned down. From his observations, according to him, the fire that occurred was very large. "The fire seemed very severe, the fire reached the top floor," he said.

Based on Teguh's observations, the fire had burned the top part and caused the roof of the building to collapse. So did the ceiling. "The room partitions are gone, only the iron remains," said Teguh.

The fire at Glodok Plaza occurred on Wednesday night, January 15, 2025. The fire started on the 7th floor and spread to the 9th floor. Firefighters battled the fire for more than four hours. A total of 14 people were reported missing in the disaster. As of Saturday, January 18, 2024, eight of them had been found and their bodies evacuated to the Kramatjati Police Hospital.

The search for victims is slow because the building structure is prone to collapse. The Fire and Rescue Team (Gulkarmat) must be careful not to lose more victims.
