TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung ensures the availability of food in Jakarta is in a safe condition ahead of the celebrations of Chinese New Year, Ramadan, and Eid al-Fitr in 2026. He stated that the provincial government has taken early anticipation measures to maintain the supply and price stability of necessities.
Pramono said that the provincial government is in active communication with local authorities from various regions that have been Jakarta's main food suppliers. This coordination is carried out to ensure the smooth distribution of food when the demand increases during religious festive seasons.
"I am always in communication with local authorities from all over Indonesia who supply to Jakarta," said Pramono when met in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
According to Pramono, preparations will be made from now on to prevent food issues from arising in the lead-up to these schedules. "Hopefully, food issues in Jakarta will not be a problem, including meat. From now on, we have also prepared for that," he said.
The celebration of the Chinese New Year 2577 Kongzili falls on February 17, 2026, while the beginning of Ramadan 1447 Hijri is estimated to start on February 18, 2026.
Trends in Food Inflation at the Beginning of Ramadan
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that inflation trends almost always occur at the beginning of Ramadan and tend to be higher than the previous month. Deputy for Statistics of Distribution and Services of BPS, Pudji Ismartini, said that the food, beverage, and tobacco group consistently contributes the most to inflation towards Eid al-Fitr.
The beginning of Ramadan this year is estimated to fall on February 18, 2026. Pudji mentioned several food commodities that are potentially responsible for inflation during this period, including broiler chicken, eggs, rice, cooking oil, and bird's eye chili.
"These commodities may be anticipated as we are starting to enter Ramadan next month," said Pudji in a coordination meeting for inflation control broadcasted via the Ministry of Home Affairs' YouTube channel on Monday, January 19, 2026.
According to BPS records, from 2021 to 2025, the food, beverage, and tobacco sector has consistently been the primary driver of inflation at the start of Ramadan. The highest inflation was recorded at the start of Ramadan in 2025, reaching 1.65 percent compared to the previous month, with variations influenced by the different timing of the start of Ramadan each year.
