TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The animated film How to Train Your Dragon is ready to greet the fans once more, but this time with the live-action version. Scheduled for release on June 13, 2025, Universal Pictures has revealed the first look at the upcoming movie.

Actors and Actresses Starring in How to Train Your Dragon Live-Action Movie
Hiccup – Mason Thames
The best friend of Toothless and the son of the village chief is played by Mason Thames. From the first trailer, Thames’ hair is seen to be styled according to the animated version of Hiccup, demonstrating a great effort to make this film as enjoyable as the animated version. The American actor is well-known for his role in The Black Phone.
Astrid – Nico Parker
Nico Parker acts as Astrid, Hiccup’s love interest. Recognized for her role in The Last of Us and Dumbo, the English actress is believed to be delivering Astrid’s bold character.
Stoick the Vast – Gerard Butler
In the animated version, Stoick the Vast is captured as the ideal Viking chief who possesses traits including bravery, stubbornness, and strength. With Gerald Butler portraying him, his first appearance in the trailer looks quite promising. The Scottish actor has always been known for playing such courageous characters, such as in 300 and Olympus Has Fallen.
Gobber the Belch – Nick Frost
Nick Frost is cast as Gobber, a veteran warrior who is friends with Stoick the Vast. Best known for his comedy in movies like Hot Fuzz, there is no better actor to portray Gobber’s sarcastic humor than Nick Frost himself.
Fishlegs – Julian Dennison
The clumsy and caring Fishlegs is set to be played by Julian Dennison. The New Zealand actor is known for starring in blockbusters, including Deadpool 2 and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Snotlout – Gabriel Howell
Gabriel Howell will play the arrogant and narcissistic Snotlout. The character is captured as Fishlegs’s bully, often mocking and intimidating him. Howell’s talent gained more recognition after his role in the Netflix series Bodies.
Ruffnut – Bronwyn James
Bronwyn James takes on the role of Ruffnut, the mischievous twin of Tuffnut. As another teen girl in the group with Astrid, Ruffnut personifies the idea of a bold female warrior. The actress herself, James, recently starred in Universal Pictures' latest movie, Wicked.
Tuffnut – Harry Trevaldwyn
Harry Trefaldwyn will portray Tuffnut, Ruffnut's fraternal twin. Sharing many of similar traits as his twin, Tuffnut is known for his annoying and more dominant behavior than Ruffnut. Actor Trevaldwyn has appeared in projects, such as Billi and The King.
Phlegma – Ruth Codd
Ruth Codd steps into the role of Phlegma, a lesser-known but intriguing character in the How to Train Your Dragon universe. With Ruth Codd starring in the movie, she is sure to deliver another standout performance, aside from her work in The Fall of the House of Usher.
