TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) scrutinized the budget used by the House of Representatives (DPR) to debate the amendment on the Law concerning the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI Law) at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta.

"ICW estimates that the weekend meeting at the Fairmont Hotel to discuss the TNI Bill could spend between Rp820,533,000 and Rp1,248,933,333," said ICW researcher Nisa Zonzoa in an official statement on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

The corruption watchdog based its calculation on the prices of room rental at the hotel, which range from Rp2,250,000 for a deluxe room to an estimated Rp4,350,000 for a suite room. ICW also includes the price of a full-board meeting package at Rp1,050,000 per person and room rental costs ranging from Rp14 million to Rp130 million for a two-day meeting.

Nisa considers the decision to hold a meeting at the hotel inappropriate and a waste of state funds especially with Prabowo’s budget cuts policy. “The action reflects lawmakers that are insensitive to present economic conditions and how reckless the state funds are used,” said Nisa.

Lawmakers from House Commission I held a working meeting to discuss the revision of the TNI Law with the government at the Fairmont Hotel, Central Jakarta.

Based on Tempo's observation, among the attending members were Ahmad Heryawan, Tubagus Hasanuddin, and Rizki Aulia Natakusumah. Meanwhile, representatives of the government present at the second day's meeting were Deputy Defense Minister Donny Ermawan.

DPR Commission I member Tubagus Hasanuddin did not explain in detail why the hotel was chosen as a venue to hold the meeting. He relegated the questions to the leader of Commission I.

The chair of Commission I, Utut Adianto, meanwhile, maintained that hotel meetings are common practice. “You can check past occurrences,” said Utut on March 15.
